The Cine Echegaray was opened on 19th November 1932 with the Ufa production of “El Favorito de la Guardia”(Her Highness Commands) starring Lilian Harvey. Seating was provided for 800: 500 in the orchestra & 300 in the balcony levels. It was closed as a cinema in 2001 and the vacant building deteriorated. It was renovated in 2009, opening as a live theatre on October 7, 2009 with a reduced seating capacity of 297 in its ‘modern’ style auditorium.
