Located in Leatherhead, Surrey. The Crescent Cinema was opened in 1939. It was designed in an Art Deco style by architects A.E. Richardson, C. Lovatt Gill and Arthur Percival Starkey. It was equipped with a Hammond Lafleur electronic organ with an illuminated console. The sound system was by RCA. The proscenium was 40ft wide, the stage 30ft deep and there were two dressing rooms. The Crescent Cinema was independently operated. It was closed around 1967 and was briefly converted into a bingo club. This was not a success and the Crescent Cinema was purchased by the council.
Rather than they utilise the building as a live theatre, it was demolished and the Thorndike Theatre was built in its place in 1969. (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures)
