Grand Theatre

This theatre appears on the 1913 Sanborn, in a large 3-story brick structure that replaced a smaller commercial building shown in 1895.

This was a purpose built theatre, with a large auditorium to the rear of the office/retail space. The balcony was a deep ‘U’, and a large stage with scenery indicates that movies were not an exclusive feature at this point.

Unfortunately, there are very large gaps in the map coverage both before and after 1913. The Grand Theatre was still open in 1931, but had closed by 1932. By 1949 it had been replaced by a store which was itself replaced by the dreary modern structure on the lot today.
