R.K. Lattin launched the new-build Strand Theatre on July 2, 1921 with Jane Novak in “Isobel or the Trail’s End” supported by a comedy short. Lattin passed away having kept the film silent longer than most theatres in the State of Nebraska. On May 11, 1934, new operators Carson Hansen and Harold Neumann finally installed sound. Thing didn’t work out for the pair and the theatre closed with the equipment removed.
The Strand Theatre was taken on by merchants who ran live programming until a new operator was identified in Elden Anspach who re-installed sound film equipment beginning September 25, 1937. That didn’t last too long as the theatre was closed as a movie theatre by 1941. The theatre was used for auctions, dances and other live events into the 1950’s.
