Jim and John Duffy began their Cinema Drafthouse concept in Orlando running theatres under the Cinema ānā Drafhouse banner in 1978. This location became one of the earliest franchised locations within their circuit opening in 1982. That same franchisee also had the Maximo and the Clearwater locations.
The Park Plaza Shopping Center had opened theatre-less on August 2, 1962 with a W.T. Grant and a Woolworth store as its main anchors. Zayre would later become a main anchor and at the 20-year leasing expiries of the original retailers, changes came to the Park Plaza in 1982. One of those changes was that carpet store next door to Zayre at 4110 Park (the address no longer technically exists following demolition of the Plaza later) as the single-screen, 250-seat Park Cinema ‘n’ Drafthouse.
The Park Cinema launched November 5, 1982 with “The World According to Garp”. It appears to have gone out of business on January 27, 1991. The circuit would have ample opportunities to move into failing 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-screen multiplexes, which it did, when the Duffys changed its name of Cinema ‘n’ Drafthouse (which had moved to Atlanta in the mid-1980s) to the Cinema Grill Systems Circuit of Georgia in the 1990’s. The entire Park Plaza Shopping Center was razed and replaced with a Home Depot store that was still operating into the 2020’s.
