The Majestic Theatre launched in late-1916 as the town’s second dedicated movie venue replacing the Fidelity Theatre. Both locations were situated in converted retail buildings in downtown Refugio, TX. The location sported Simplex projectors with Peerless lamps projected onto a Silversheet screen. The 200-seat theatre was enhanced by a local pharmacy that sold ice cream and candy before and after shows.
The theatre converted to disc-based sound on March 9, 1930 to remain somewhat viable. But drug store and - then theatre owner Mrs. Roch - announced she was leaving town and would be selling the Majestic Theatre in March of 1931. It would close permanently that year.
Hall Industries Circuit would then create the town’s first new-build location with the Rialto Theatre opening in 1931. That long-running venue replaced the Majestic Theatre which was converted for other purposes.
