Its history was mostly incomplete, but this theater has been operating since its opening around July of 1929 according to a 20th anniversary page outlet from the Monroe Journal from 20 years later in 1949. I immediately dug up information but the information about its “Monroe Theatre” name dates as early as 1933. So its history hasn’t been confirmed yet for so far. Its original look lasted until 1942. But during the Great Depression, Monroeville had a Strand Theatre nearby.
After remodeling, the Monroe Theatre reopened its doors on June 4, 1942 with John Payne and Claudette Colbert in “Remember The Day” with no extras.
On September 23, 1954, the manager of the theatre, Ralph Mann, had announced the installation of CinemaScope, which it did installed later that week.
It was still in operation into the 1960’s, and was unknown when it closed its doors. So the hunt still continues.

The overview mentions there was a Strand Theatre in town. I found an ad for it from 1930. I also found a personal remembrance on the Monroeville Heritage site that the Strand opened in 1927, later became the Monroe and burnt down in 1970. The other Monroe on CT indicates it burnt down in 1977. Needs to be more investigation re both, if fact in there were two, theatres.
