The Princess Theatre was a silent movie house that opened on downtown Galesburg’s Main Street on March 6, 1913. It was a contemporary theatre in that it was built for motion pictures with a third floor, isolated and fireproof projector, a second floor balcony and a raised main floor with unobstructed views of the screen. Bernard L. Robinson of the local newspaper moonlighted as the drummer there. The theatre played three reels of pictures changing daily.
William Sullivan took on the venue and added improvements including the addition of a second projector to play longer shows. The theatre got the exclusive contract for Paramount films which helped out the bottom line. Sullivan also showed World War I films to let people know what was transpiring overseas. The theatre last advertised with Dorothy Gish in “Turning the Tables” on April 2, 1921. However, there is the chance that this venue would later become the Gala and Bond theatre.
