After W.O. Bruton moved his Mercantile Store to new and larger digs, E.B. Bugher and Bruton opened the Wonderland Theatre in the former retail location. The new home of the theatre had been built in 1905. The Wonderland Theatre launched on November 11, 1912 with “The Girl in Red”. Bugher had also opened his other new Wonderland Theatre in Sallisaw and would soon open a third Wonderland Theatre in Vian.
The record attendance for the venue came in April of 1926 when the Wonderland featured “Wild West”, a 1925 American Western film serial directed by Robert F. Hill. The attendance was due to free admission more than the popularity of the title. The theatre closed on July 12, 1930 temporarily. However, that closure appeared to be permanent.
