President Benjamin Harrison dedicated the building in 1889. The theater was known for having almost perfect acoustics, and the stage was 100 feet wide and 70 feet deep with 26 hydraulic lift sections that could handle any production. In the early days of this theater silent movies were shown. Occasionally movies are shown during off-ballet shows.

pity you’re unable to remember what performance you saw. Also, the world famous Joffrey Ballet is hardly “ some ballet company”

Saw some ballet company here in the fall of 1984.
