This 1,000+ populated town first had its own theatre by the ownership of Teddy Soloman. He planned a theatre for the city of Summit beginning during the week November 18, 1946 and the mayor suggests that the nearby town of McComb “is in reality South Summit”. He said that there were some nice people living in South Summit but nobody else down that way had better not refer to the community to the north of us as “North McComb”.
This creation took around the same time the Masonic Home was built in the same area.
The Fox Theatre would then opened its doors to the public on March 31, 1947 with June Carlson in “Mom And Dad” along with Elliot Forbes appearing in-person. But otherwise, no extra short subjects were featured. The theatre started its life as a short-lived “non-appropriate B-film” theatre but became “appropriate enough” exactly 2 attractions later, and would later add second-run A-films shortly afterward.
CinemaScope was added in 1955 and had a remodel a year later. Shortly after reopening, the theatre immediately went downfall into its last legs.
The Fox Theatre closed its doors for the final time on September 23, 1958 with Lloyd Nolan in “Peyton Place” as its last film with no extras (as of last attraction being posted from McComb’s Enterprise-Journal), ending with a whopping 4,194 days (11+ years) in operation.
