The three screen M+ Cinema opened June 8, 2022, in the M+ Museum of visual culture.
One of the first films screened was Wong Kar Wai’s “Days Of Being Wild” from 1990. “Now revered as a classic, its cast includes a lineup of Hong Kong’s biggest stars in the prime of their youths and at the start of their illustrious careers: Leslie Cheung, Andy Lau, Maggie Cheung, Carina Lau, Jacky Cheung, and Tony Leung.” Sort of a Hong Kong version of American films the Brat Pack.
Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, seating in each auditoriums ranges from 180, 60 and 40, with films screened in digital, Dolby 7.1 sound, 35mm and 16mm.
The cinema offers feature films, documentaries, experimental cinema and restored classics.
