The Cabin Theatre was Jack Pierce’s “western” theatre that complemented his Lyric Theatre and, later, Time Theatre. It was placed in a converted garage on SE. 3rd Street launching on October 20, 1937 operating four days a week. Most of the films programmed were westerns and the venue was adorned in a Rustic style.
In 1939, Pierce upgraded the sound system to improve audio fidelity. But on April 20, 1946 a projection booth fire demonstrated how inadequate the theatre was for fire egress. A lawsuit was launched by one of the burned patrons. It led Pierce to create the Time Theatre later in the year - a new-build facility with better fire escapes (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Cabin Theatre was permanently closed.
