Crab Orchard’s Howard Theatre was named by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Hamp Howard, and opened its doors in early-1947.

Along with the Gray Theatre in Brodhead, both theatres were operated by the Roaden Theatres Incorporated shortly after Mr. Dan Gray left the Gray Theatre in Brodhead in frustration on the city’s tax law in 1950.

The Howard Theatre closed for the final time on November 21, 1964.

There appears to be some wrong information. The Howard Theater in Crab Orchard has not been demolished. The building is in bad shape and part of the roof has collapsed. However there is a fund raising campaign to try to preserve the theater. https://fox56news.com/news/kentucky/new-owner-of-lincoln-county-theater-hopes-to-restore-historic-building/

I also found out that the Howard Theatre reopened a couple months after its November 1964 closure. It was still open as a movie house in 1965, but it closed later in the 1960s. The Howard Theatre would then become a music venue in the late-1960s and early-1970s.
