Pat Elzey built the town’s first but, ultimately, short-lived drive-in in 1952. The $50,000 structure sported RCA sound and was located between Ferriday and Visalia on the highway at the Minorca plantation. The Pat Drive-In opened July 25, 1952 with Richard Widmark in “Red Skies of Montana". Unfortunately for the Elzey family, another drive-in opened in 1953 diluting the business.
Minor trouble occurred in 1954 when Elzey inaugurated the Jackpot $500 quiz. The competition complained that the quiz was nothing more than a lottery to attract patrons. Elzey was cited and apparently arrested on running a lottery. He was exonerated and the practice was considered legal. The Pat Drive-In appears to have started, but did not complete its fourth season. It was demolished by 1959 to have been developed as a grocery store which has since closed and been razed.

A closer address is 1645 Carter St, Vidalia, LA.
A 1957 aerial shows the drive-in intact, although it certainly looks closed. By 1959, the drive-in had been demolished. By 1983, all traces of the drive-in had been removed.
Today, three businesses which include Vidalia Market sits on the property.
