great memories of Saturday afternoons at the Bug-Hut atching Flash Gordon,Hopalong Cassidy,The Lone Ranger etc. There were always long queues and we soon twigged that if ,when you reached the pay-box,and went again to the back of the queue,by the time you paid for your ticket the downstairs would be full,so you went upstairs for the same money. The only problem was,if you were wearing clogs, you weren’t allowed upstairs because it was carpeted. The downstairs floor was just concrete and occasionally, some clever sod on the back row would roll a large ball-bearing which would clunk against the cast-iron chair legs on it’s way down and finish with a resounding clang against the heating pipes below the screen accompanied by loud cheers. -Happy days, Tecky

I used to live on Moorcroft st just over the road from the Palace cinema.I have many happy memories of going to the bughut as it was affectionetely known. The cinema closed around 1958 when a lot of houses were due for demolition in the surrounding area and whole families were being re-housed,this probably had a bad effect on the cinema attendances at the time.Bingo was now big time and it eventually became a bingo hall, snooker hall and furniture place. The building became derelict for many years and it was demolished around 2002,I managed to salvage a brick from the site just for old times sake.I would love to share many more memories which I have of the old Palace"the bughut" cinema on Ashton rd Droylsden, Phil.

The Palace was operated by the H.D.Moorehouse circuit from 1931 until 1956. It had 501 seats.
