Scott Cinemas-Northgate Yard Bridgwater

Located in Northgate Yard, next to the Brewery Field, Bridgwater, Somerset. The Scott Cinema is planned to open in early-Autumn 2022. As part of a new leisure park, the state of the art 7-screen cinema operated by the South West based company, Scott Cinemas, cost £16 million. The new cinema is the flagship cinema for the company, who also operate the Scott Cinema (former Odeon) in Bridgwater (see other Cinema Treasures entry). The fate of that Scott Cinema is currently unknown, as the lease is expected to be given back to the landlord (It closed on 29th September 2022).

The cinema features luxury seating, a VIP lounge bar area and separate VIP auditorium. Five of the screens are conventional cinema auditoriums, with stadium seating. Screen 6 is a luxury studio auditorium, and screen 7 is a hi-lux auditorium for VIPs.

The luxury studio auditorium has seating of 32, featuring sofas and chairs. The hi-lux auditorium, on the second floor of the cinema, has a smaller capacity, however it features a VIP lounge area and bar.

Screen 1 and 3 feature Dolby Atmos technology, including 51 individual speakers and 42 surround speakers.

Work began in April 2021 to construct the cinema shell by contractor Wilmott Dixon on behalf of the district council. Groundwork started in July, 2021, with members of the Scott Cinema team attending the build.

By October, 2021, steel framing was completed with stadia rakers for screens 3, 4 and 5. By November of that year, CGI images depicting the final construction were released by Scott Cinemas.

The main Northgate Yard development will be concluded by September 2022, and the cinema was opened on 28th October 2022.
