In Canterbury, Kent, The Riverside is a £115m mixed use development at the centre of a new leisure quarter overlooking the River Stour.
The development includes 50,000sqft of commercial space, 189 new homes, 493 student bedrooms and a new public square. Restaurants, bars and cafes ‘wrap around’ this central feature, and the whole leisure offering is anchored by the five-screen Curzon Riverside (so named to avoid confusion with the existing Curzon in Westgate Hall Road - see separate Cinema Treasures entry).
The Curzon Riverside opened on Friday 26th August 2022. Among the opening films were horror epic “Nope”, adventure thriller “Beast”, action thriller “Bullet Train” and high-octane adventure “Top Gun: Maverick”.
The five screens have names inspired by English poet Geoffrey Chaucer and his short story collection “The Canterbury Tales”: The Knight Screen (92 seats), The Miller Screen (59), The Friar Screen (59), The Merchant Screen (92) and The Chaucer Screen (99).
