Built on the site of the oldest cinema in Marseille, the Modern Cinema, which was demolished. The Rex Cinema was opened on 24th February 1933 with Maurice Chevalier & Jeanette MacDonald in “One Hour with You”. It was destroyed by Allied bombs on 27th May 1944.
A new Rex Cinema was built on the site, opening on 27th October 1947, which has its own page on Cinema Treasures (as the Gaumont Rex).
