Lebanese National Theatre

Located in the northern Lebanon city of Tripoli, the second largest city in the country. The Art Deco style Empire Cinema was opened in 1932. It was closed during the Lebanese Civil War and conflicts with Israel in the 1980’s. It reopened in 1990 for Eid and other special occasions, but then closed permanently, gradually deteriorating for the next 28 years.

In 2014 it was taken over by TIRO Association for Arts(TAA) and restoration of the building began. That is still an ongoing task, but it finally reopened in September 2022 as the Lebanese National Theatre with the Tripoli International Film Festival. All activities are free admission.
