Located in Chelmsford, Essex. The Empire Picture House was opened around 1912. by a Mr. C. Reid. By 1921 it was operated by the Chelmsford Empire and Hippodrome Company. By 1928 it was operated by the Eastern Counties Cinemas Ltd. chain and a Western Electric (WE) sound system was installed.
In 1940 it was badly damaged by a fire. Repairs were carried out and it was used as a food store for the remainder of World War II. After the end of the war it went into retail use and eventually became derelict and unused and was demolished in 1961.
