Filmpalast Gloria

Located in Weibenfels, to the southwest of Leipzig. The Filmpalast Gloria was opened on 18th October 1928. It was designed in a Bauhaus style by architect Carl Fugmann. As well as presenting films it was used for congress meetings and live performances. In 1991 it was taken over by Ufa. It closed as a cinema in 1994 and became a discotheque which closed in 1997.

The last owner of the building was made bankrupt in 2005 and since then it has remained vacant and deteriorating. Several plans have been made over the years including conversion into a parking garage, a library and a cultural centre, none of which have got passed the proposal stage. In 2019 emergency repairs were carried out. The Filmpalast Gloria is a Listed Building.
