Curzon Cinema

Located in the Offerton district to the east of Stockport. The Curzon Cinema was opened on 12th June 1937 with Gordon Harker in “Claude Hulbert in ”“Wolf’s Clothing”. It was independently operated by Offerton Cinemas Ltd. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. There was a free car park for patrons.

By 1958 it had been equipped with CinemaScope and the proscenium was 32ft wide. It was closed on 19th March 1960 with Sal Mineo in “A Private’s Affair”.

It was converted into a club in April 1961 as the Palace Theatre Club. This operated into the 1970’s when it became Rotters Discotheque. In September 1985 it reopened as Hamilton’s, a piano bar and winery. It has since been demolished.
