Opened as the Imperial Theatre by March 1926. It was remodeled in 1931 and reopened as the Ritz Theatre on February 14, 1931. Operated by the Albrecht family, they planned to completely remodel theatre, but decided to build a new Ritz Theatre further along Main Street at #1513 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The former Imperial/Ritz Theatre is currently in retail use.

The March 12, 1926 issue of the Newberry Observer noted that the Imperial Theatre was owned by the Piedmont Amusement Company.
