The Romuva Kino was opened on 13th April 1940. It was operated by two businessmen until it was nationalised by the State during World War II and became a Soldaten Kino for German soldiers. When Lithuania split from the Soviet Union and became an independent country in 1990, the supply of Soviet films dried up product became scarce. It was closed on 15th April 2007 due to the opening of a 7-screen multiplex located in a shopping mall in the town named Forum Cinemas. It is the oldest operating cinema in Lithuania.

In 2015 it became a member of the Europa Cinemas Group of art-house cinemas. Only the facade and foyer areas retain their original Art Deco style. Both auditoriums are basically black boxes.
