Located in the city centre on the northwest corner of Plaza Bolivar at Calle 95 and Avenida 5 Urdaneta. The Teatro Baralt replaced an earlier theatre of the same name (1883-1928) which screened the first films in Venezuela on 11th July 1896.
This second Teatro Baralt was opened on 19th December 1932. Designed in an Art Nouveau style by Belgium based architect Leon Achiel Jerome Hoet. In November 1981 it was designated a National Monument. It underwent a restoration in 1996, reopening in 1998. It is primarily a live theatre, but it also hosts the annual Venezuelan Short Film Festival on the last week of January.
