Built on the site of an earlier Palace Cinema which was a conversion of the Inverbrothock Free Church which became the Arbroath Theatre in 1901 and the Arbroath Picture Hall in September 1909 and the Palace Cinema in 1910. It was demolished in June 1914.
This Palace Theatre was opened in October 1914. It was sold to the J.B. Milne Theatres circuit in 1916. It was taken over by the Scottish Cinema and Variety Theatres Ltd. chain in 1917. Around 1930 it was equipped with an RCA sound system. By 1937 S.C.V.T. were being booked by the Associated British Cinemas (ABC) chain. It was closed and demolished in April 1939 to build the Associated British Cinemas chain Palace Cinema on the site (which has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
