Replacing a previous Tioga Theatre (later Rex Theatre which has its own page on Cinema Treasures), Arnold Blickre, Richard Blestrud and Francis Cannon opened the new Tioga Theater December 9, 1954, with Robert Taylor and Eleanor Parker in “Valley of The Kings”.
Bob Wagner of National Theatre Supply designed the 450-seat theater with a 33-foot screen and a cry room and after one of the remodels after 2001 it was reduced to 250 seats.
The Tioga Tribune reports that the theater has been run as a non-profit since October 2001, operated by community volunteers, with still a need for volunteers and donations.
The Tioga Theater was closed in March 2020 and then reopened on September 10, 2021, after receiving a $10,000 donation from the Bank of Tioga. The latest renovation was finished in December 2022 and there are now new seats, screen, carpeting, wall décor and speakers. A stage is provided for community events.
The Tioga Movie Theater is open Friday thru Sunday with one show a night and is sometimes closed due to bad weather.
