There were two drive-in theatres in Lexington located a few football fields away from each other on U.S. 1.
The Wessinger’s No. 1 Drive-In opened its gates in 1954. Operated by W.E. Wessinger. It was renamed the Ray’s No. 1 Drive-In in the early-1960’s.
It was one out of a few surviving family-friendly drive-ins in the Columbia area until the Ray’s No. 1 Drive-In closed for the final time on Septembder 30, 1984 with Prince in “Purple Rain”.
