The Gem Theatre opened as a burlesque theatre on October 26, 1908 at 1315 7th Avenue and closed three months later. It was reopened on February 8, 1909 as the Sans Souci Ybor Theatre by Burgert and Ratliff. The Sans Souci Ybor Theatre opened as a vaudeville and moving picture theatre. It was still open in November 1922, but by May 1924 was operating as a special events and sporting venue. It continued in various uses into the mid-1950’s.
The building still remains and currently houses a youth clinic.

The San Souci Theatre was listed in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory, and it was mentioned in the November 18, 1922 issue of Motion Picture News, but appears to have been closed by 1926, or at least is not listed in the FDY that year.
From the literature that I have come across on the San Souci, it continued as a club on and off up until around the mid 1950s when it disappeared from the books.
It was still operating in May 1924 as a special events house, which also housed sporting events.
