The IMAX Pictorium was located inside Six Flags Great America (back known as Marriott’s Great America) in Gurnee.
The IMAX Pictorium was constructed in 1978 and opened on on May 5, 1979 with “To Fly”, featuring the world’s largest motion picture screen measuring seven stories high and 96ft wide (or 70-by-96 by size), a 14-speaker stereo system, and had a capacity of 980 seats.
The IMAX Pictorium closed for the final time in late-2017 or early-2018, and was demolished in the Spring of 2018.

Opened on 5th May 1979 with “To fly”.

Yes, and the answer is a yet another roller-coaster.
I saw “To Fly” in this theatre. It actually felt like I was going over a cliff in the balloon physically and was one of the best movie experiences in my life. It’s a shame they tore it down.
