On April 24, 1943, the Nevada State Journal reported the opening of the 86-seat Newsreel Theatre in a remodeled building. Due to war time construction restrictions no front was put on the theater, however air conditioning was installed.
The Journal said Owner Otto Roald Vestbie was following the newsreel theatre formula so popular on the coast. This was one hour of news and shorts each hour on the hour. The cost of a ticket was 20c Adult, 16c Jrs. and 10c Child. On Sundays a feature film was included.
On September 6, 1943, it was renamed the Victory Theatre playing the second run “Holiday Inn” with Bing Crosby and no newsreels advertised.
The Victory Theatre was scorched by fire in the basement after midnight on November 29, 1943. The Journal reported there was little damage but after that that the theatre dropped out of the listings and news.
