Located in the city centre on Railway Square and Harris Street, on the site of the Cyclorama . The Glaciarium had its entrance on George Street and opened as an ice skating rink on 25th July 1907. T.J. West began screening films here on 7th December 1907 and this continued during summer months (November-March) until he moved out in 1916. It was taken over by an independent operator in the summer of 1917, but that only lasted for a while. From 1918 it reverted back to a permanent ice rink and in later years lavish ice spectaculars were produced. The Glaciarium was closed in 1955.
It had been demolished by 1987, but the ornate George Street entrance on Railway Square survives adjacent to a McDonald’s Restaurant (which was originally the entrance to the Kings Theatre).
