Located in the village of Aberfan, Glamorgan, 4-miles to the south of Merthyr Tydfil. The Electric Theatre was opened by 1927. Around 1930 it was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system. This was later replaced by a Western Electric(WE) sound system.
It was still open in 1966, but had closed by 1969.
The village of Aberfan is remembered for the Aberfan disaster which happened at 09:13am on 21st October 1966 when a colliery spoil tip collapsed into a school and homes killing 116-children and 28 adults. Could this be one of the reasons the Electric Theatre closed?
