Kempener Lichtspiele

The “Kempener Lichtspiele” has existed since March 1919 and this traditional house has been run by the Janssen cinema family for four generations in the heart of Kempen, right on the Butter Market. The last generational change took place on January 3, 2001, when Arnold Janssen handed over the cinema business to his son Frank.

In the more than 85-year history of this cinema, several conversions have taken place, most recently in September 1994 with the redesign of the façade and the cinema foyer, and in May 2002 with the complete conversion of cinema 1.

The Kempener Lichtspiele offer a lot of atmosphere, and are dearly loved by cinema fans. Despite the immediate vicinity of the large multiplex cinemas in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach, the cinema in Kempen was able to hold its own, not least thanks to continuous investments in the latest cinema technology.

At the same time, the Kempener Lichtspiele also house the administration for the other cinemas of the Janssen Group in Geldern (Herzogtheater) and Kleve (Tichelpark Cinemas).
