The TOHO Cinemas Ueno replaced three theaters in the same area. There was once the Ueno Toho + Takarazuka Theater which opened on December 13, 1954 and closed on August 31, 2003, the Ueno Central Theater which closed on May 14, 2006, and the Ueno Park Theater which opened in 1951 and closed on March 1, 1990.
The TOHO Cinemas Ueno is a eight-screen theater opening on November 4, 2017 located on the 7th-10th floors of the Ueno Frontier Tower.
