Sprague Theatre

The ‘Academy of Music’ was built sometime before 1883. It was a typical opera house of the period, a two-story brick building with two storefronts on the ground level, and a theatre upstairs. It was located at the western edge of downtown

By 1905, it was known as the Sprague Opera House, and by 1914 movies were being shown there. It’s unknown when operations ceased. This is one of the least attractive blocks in a pleasant downtown, and this site is a parking lot between an ugly masonic temple, and some badly remodeled older buildings.
