The Pope Theatre came into being just about the time Lake Placid was incorporated. Lake Placid was charted by Dr. Melvil Dewey, the inventor of the Dewey Decimal System, and the founder of the Lake Placid Club in Lake Placid, New York. The Pope Theatre remained part of the cityscape up until the mid-1940’s when it was demolished.
