The 750-seat Iowa Theatre opened its doors on December 20, 1947 with George Brent in “Out Of the Blue” along with a children’s matinee. It was first operated by Richard McTague.

The Iowa Theatre was announced on March 5, 1947 when H.P. Saggau announced that the theatre will be built on North Main Street located north to the Gaulding Motor Company building.

The Iowa Theatre closed for the final time in 1959.

The address must be wrong. The building at this location is a small store from the late ‘30s or early '40s. There is no room for such a large theater on this block. It may have been north of the post office.
