Cine-Teatro Monumental

Opened as the Cine-Teatro Imperial on 10th June 1952 with the 1941 Italian film “Teresa Venerdi”, directed by Vittoria de Sica. This was the first cinema/theatre to open in the town. Seating is provided for 884-seats in the orchestra and 416-seats in the balcony. The facade is built with local stone. It was closed in the 1980’s due to the civil war in Angola.

It was reopened as the Cine-Teatro Monumental in 2004 with Keanu Reeves in “The Matrix” which was screened in DVD format.
