The State Theatre was opened in 1928. By 1957 it was operated by Daytz Theatres. It was destroyed by fire on March 4, 1958.

The State Twin Theatre was built and opened in 1980, on the same site as the previous State Theatre. (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
