The Lyric Theatre opened its doors on September 7, 1925 with James Kirkwood in “Ponjola” along with an unnamed comedy, and was first operated by Carl Coons.
The Lyric Theatre did have a short closure in March 1955 before reopening that July. Unfortunately, when the Lyric Theatre reopened that month, it only ran movies on Fridays and Saturdays only instead of the usual seven. It wasn’t until the following month when the theatre began running movies on Sundays and Mondays again as well and was upgraded to four nights a week. This didn’t last long, and it closed by the end of the year.
While CinemaScope theaters are under the major boom at the time, the Lyric Theatre wasn’t one of those theatre that had it. The Lyric Theatre went into major exclamation in March 1957 following its downgrade of movies, as the theatre at the time only shows movies on Saturdays.
The Lyric Theatre closed in the early-1960’s, and was demolished on June 7, 1965 after one of its walls collapsed but no injuries were reported.
