In Grimsby, Lincolnshire, the Lyric Cinema opened on 18th September 1913. It was “built” earlier that year, so it was presumably purpose-built, rather than being a conversion. The 1914 Kinematograph Year Book shows Higgins & Littlewood as the proprietors, and the seating capacity as 500.
By the 1927 edition the resident manager was J. H. Curry. By 1931 the proprietor was N. Blair, with no further mention of Mr Curry.
By 1935 a Morrison sound system had been installed, and the seating capacity reduced to 350 (reducing further, to 338, by 1939).
By 1942 this had (presumably) been ‘rounded up’ to 340, and the proprietor was L. Bass. Shows were continuous from 1pm, with two changes of programme each week.
The Lyric Cinema closed due to bomb damage in 1943 and never re-opened. The building lay unused until the 1950’s, after which it became home to a series of shops. It is assumed it has been demolished.
