Two exteriors of the Maindee as the Godrey Morgan pub – the Auditorium block shows the windows punched through the side wall of the rear stalls, which gives some idea of how the pub is laid out under the balcony.

My friends this afternoon, sugested do a search for (forgive spelling) Art Deco cinemas buildings,in the uk, you get the idea. Apprently we’ll get a lot of railway stations, in London and the South coast. When I do said search, will post in here.
If anyone else does it b4 me, please post any intresting findings here please.
The siting of the projection box and the ceiling panels are similar to the Olympia, Cardiff, as rebuilt a couple of years earlier. Are the architects and builders of the Maindee listed anywhere?
Well that may help, as I’d guessthey’d run a “new” film, so we’re looking at feb/march. Will try to hit the micro film later this week.

Well near the end of sept I will be putting up a website featuring this building. I an a regular in the pub and know the old “Rewind Boy”. So we are going to make him a presentation, soon. After that the pics will be posted.
As to exterior, we were more interested in the interior ones, but I go there fairly often, will take some!
Ive just answered my own question above by looking at the Google map. For 20 odd years every time i travel thru Newport by train i have always looked out for the Odeon on the left side as the train approaches Newport. It was only a few days ago i was sitting on the other side of the train and noticed this huge silver roofed building. Very obviously a cinema or bingo hall. It looks amazing on the inside with its very rare example of under balcony projection booth. It looks a large size auditorium. Does anyone have any exterior photos? Its great to see that the Odeon has a new life. Its been rather depressing the last many, many years seeing it sitting there getting more and more derelict and weather beaten. Bravo Newport, another palace saved for our enjoyment.
Is this the large metal roofed building that can be seen on the left hand side of the train as it leaves Newport going towards London??? About 300/500 yards from the train track!

The JD Weatherspoons pub conversion of the former Mainee Cinema is called ‘The Godfrey Morgan’.
