Mr. S.A. Schloss of Wilmington, North Carolina is the original operator of the theatre when it opened in October 1907, which came right after his short February 6, 1907 trip to Asheville, North Carolina for a purpose winding up the deal for construction of a three-story building with not less of a capacity than 1,200 seats including a balcony and a gallery alongside scenery created by Mr. Eugene Coxe, an artist who at the time painted other sceneries for 50+ other theaters.
Schloss himself was a pioneer of early North Carolina theatres during the late-1900’s, but his stardom literally fell either before or by World War I. The Schloss Theatre is very short-lived though, as his circuit also operated the Academy of Music Theatre nearby.
