The Jackson Sun reported that the Laco Drive-In opened on Thursday, July 17, 1952. Boxoffice magazine later noted that it was owned by Guy B. Amis of Lexington Amusement Co. and could hold 400 cars.

The 1955-56 Theatre Catalog listed the Laco Drive-In under Lexington. Its capacity was 245 cars, and its owner was Guy B. Amis.

The 1961 Motion Picture Almanac included the Laco with a new capacity of 300 cars and the same owner, Guy B. Amis.

In August 1980, Lexington’s aldermen voted to annex the land along State Highway 22 north, stopping at the Laco Drive-In. The drive-in was active until at least 1983, when it was the scene of a knife fight.

A 1956 aerial photo showed a drive-in about three miles north of Lexington on Highway 22. A 1985 aerial showed the drive-in still intact, but it had been replaced by other buildings by 1997. Those buildings are now just within Lexington’s city limits.
