Located in the southeast London district of Peckham. The Gem Picture Playhouse was operating by late-1908 or early-1909. By October 1909 it was operating as the Biograph Theatre. On 1st January 1910 a Cinematograph Licence was granted to American exhibitor George Washington Grant who operated a chain of Biograph Theatres in London suburbs. This Biograph Theatre had a sloping concrete floor. The Biograph Theatre had closed by 1914 and soon reopened as the Gem Picture Palace. It was closed in the summer of 1916, possibly due to conditions during World War I.

By 2008, the ground floor of the building was in multiple use as a mini-cab despatch office, a barbers' shop and a money exchange, while the first-floor upstairs was in use by Pecan, a church based community centre. By 2012 Pecan had taken over the entire building and were still there in 2024.
