Opening on February 20, 1981, the Stadtkino Picalek City Cinema Center (or the Stadtkino Center Picalek GesmbH in German) used to be one of the first arthouse movie theaters to operate in or around the Vienna area. Nowadays, the theater screens first-run films only.

The Stadtkino Picalek City Cinema Center went through many operators over the years, and in 2013, the Stadtkino relocated to the former Künstlerhauskino.

In 2017, Norman Shetler took over the operation as managing director and Wiktoria Pelzer as program director, and Wiktoria Pelzer has been managing director since 2023. Seating is provided for 220, 60 & 56-seats.
