The Rex Theatre opened on April 15, 1909 in the silent era of movie exhibition. It promised 50 minutes of entertainment including films and songs. It operated with two Powers projectors. It operated next to the Jeffers Theatre which would become a direct competitor when it became the Jeffers-Strand Theatre switching to film in 1915 (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
Fred J. Durkee operated the theatre much of its existence. The Rex Theatre closed on February 5, 1929 after completing a 20-year lease. It was offered for lease a month later with the Powers projector and all the seating offered for sale. The building was used by a variety of retailers but has since been demolished.
