Smith Theatre

This theater appears on the 1914 Sanborn, in a good-sized two story wooden storefront. This building did not appear on the 1906 map.

This was part of an ‘empire’ that consisted of the Smith Hotel (a large wooden building at the corner of Park Street and West Main Street, still visible on the 2008 streetview) and a small private electric plant located down the hill behind the theater.

Despite being much larger than the competing Popular Theatre just down the block, this does not seem to have made the transition to a more permanent structure. The building was demolished many years ago, and the site is a vacant lot. The address is a guess, but the theater was located about two doors down from the building on the corner.
